MAD: Bank Al-Maghrib sets a daily central rate for the dirham against a basket of currencies weighted 60 percent euro and 40 percent US dollar, and lets the dirham trade within a fluctuation band around that rate rather than at one fixed number. Under a reform begun in January 2018, Bank Al-Maghrib has twice widened the band — from ±0.3% to ±2.5% in January 2018, then to ±5% in March 2020 — describing this as a gradual, voluntary transition from a fixed exchange rate regime toward a more flexible one. AUD: The Australian dollar has floated since 12 December 1983; its exchange rate is determined by the market. The Reserve Bank of Australia intervenes in the foreign exchange market only in exceptional circumstances, such as disorderly or dysfunctional market conditions.
