“Combined” is the median of seven sources — ECB, Visa, Mastercard, Wise, Revolut, OANDA and XE — not an average, so one stale quote cannot pull it. Switch to a single provider with “Rate source”, or add a margin to estimate a bank’s markup.

Currency Converter FAQ

What is the mid-market rate?

The mid-market rate — also called the interbank rate — is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices banks trade currency at among themselves, before any markup is added. It is the reference every rate on this page is built from.

Why do the seven sources show different numbers?

ECB, Visa, Mastercard, Wise, Revolut, OANDA and XE each source and refresh their own quotes independently, so seeing them a few basis points apart at the same moment is normal, not an error.

How is the “Combined” rate calculated?

“Combined” is the median of the seven sources above, not their average, so a single stale or outlying quote does not pull the displayed rate toward it.

Is FxRates free to use?

Yes. Converting currencies, viewing rate history charts and reading the cross-rate tables on this site are all free, with no account or sign-up required.
