CAD: The Canadian dollar floats freely: the Bank of Canada states that the flexible exchange rate, or floating dollar, permits an independent monetary policy aimed at its 2% inflation-control target, and that the dollar's value is not fixed to any other currency or to gold. The dollar has floated continuously since 31 May 1970. MAD: Bank Al-Maghrib sets a daily central rate for the dirham against a basket of currencies weighted 60 percent euro and 40 percent US dollar, and lets the dirham trade within a fluctuation band around that rate rather than at one fixed number. Under a reform begun in January 2018, Bank Al-Maghrib has twice widened the band — from ±0.3% to ±2.5% in January 2018, then to ±5% in March 2020 — describing this as a gradual, voluntary transition from a fixed exchange rate regime toward a more flexible one.
