EUR: The euro floats freely: its exchange rate is determined in foreign exchange markets, and the European Central Bank pursues a symmetric 2% inflation target rather than any exchange rate target or band. MAD: Bank Al-Maghrib sets a daily central rate for the dirham against a basket of currencies weighted 60 percent euro and 40 percent US dollar, and lets the dirham trade within a fluctuation band around that rate rather than at one fixed number. Under a reform begun in January 2018, Bank Al-Maghrib has twice widened the band — from ±0.3% to ±2.5% in January 2018, then to ±5% in March 2020 — describing this as a gradual, voluntary transition from a fixed exchange rate regime toward a more flexible one.
