GBP: Sterling has floated freely since the United Kingdom left the European Exchange Rate Mechanism on 16 September 1992. The Bank of England targets 2% inflation, set by the Government, and does not target an exchange rate. MYR: Bank Negara Malaysia removed the ringgit's fixed rate against the US dollar on 21 July 2005, introducing what BNM then termed a managed float monitored against a basket of the currencies of Malaysia's major trading partners. BNM's current policy statement describes this arrangement as a flexible exchange rate regime under which the ringgit is market determined; the central bank does not target or advocate any specific level, and it intervenes to ensure orderly market conditions and prevent sudden or large swings.
