CLP: Chile has operated a floating exchange rate since 1999, when the Banco Central de Chile abandoned its earlier exchange-rate band system; the central bank's own account of the reform states that the peso's value "floats in the market and adjusts automatically to external shocks." The same 1999 reform introduced an inflation-targeting framework, with a target of 3% annual inflation over a two-year policy horizon, as the anchor for monetary policy in place of any exchange-rate objective. GBP: Sterling has floated freely since the United Kingdom left the European Exchange Rate Mechanism on 16 September 1992. The Bank of England targets 2% inflation, set by the Government, and does not target an exchange rate.
