KES: Kenya has operated a floating exchange rate regime since 1993, replacing a crawling peg introduced in 1983 and a fixed rate that ran from 1966 to 1982. The Central Bank of Kenya states that it does not set the exchange rate — it is market-determined by supply and demand among licensed commercial banks and forex bureaus — though the Bank may intervene to stabilise the market during episodes of excess volatility.
